This week, Oxfordshire County Council began consultation on its proposals for restructuring its three Outdoor Education Centres:
These centres provide an essential resource for young people across Oxfordshire to experience high-quality outdoor learning and to develop skills which support them throughout their lives.
Outdoor Education has a significant impact on children's learning both within and beyond the classroom and is key in developing many of the skills and attitudes which are associated with lifelong learning and future success, such as resilience, resourcefulness, teamwork amd problem-solving. Over the next few weeks, Oxfordshire NUT will be looking at the proposals in detail and discussing them with staff at the centres and other stakeholders.

I went on trips to Yenworthy and Kilvrough when I was at school and really enjoyed them. It was really educational too, I vaguely remember being taught about the life cycle while we were all fishing around in a pond. Kilvrough was the first time most of our class had gone into a cave and we learned about geography along the way.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think it would be a real shame if these centres weren't around in the future because school trips are a valuable part of our education.
